What is Facebook doing on TikTok? Eliminate competition? Want to DM Charlie? Recruit beta testers? Buy advertising? We’ll soon find out how the social network has created its own TikTok account, where despite not posting public videos, it has already amassed around 15,100 followers at the time of writing. The account has been verified by TikTok and Facebook has also confirmed that it is legit.

Facebook’s TikTok (which seems wrong) was spotted a few days ago by a social media consultant. Matt Navarra.

The account has been given a blue tick to indicate its verified status. But the lack of essence and some strange biography … “We believe that together people can do more than alone. , – Why a comma?! – However, we are wondering if it really was a Facebook account. In addition, the account bio is linked to the Facebook app on Google Play and not to the Facebook website or any official communication channel.

Isn’t this meta anymore?

I mean Facebook already killed him Twitter.com/Facebook ForI And neither is Instagram.com/Facebook. This is Instagram.com/Meta.

But Facebook – er, meta – told us that the TikTok account is real.

“Brands use a variety of channels, including some of our social media, to connect with and engage with people who use their products and services every day,” a Meta spokesperson said. “Our intention to create a brand presence and grow a community on platforms like TikTok or others is no different.”

It’s entirely possible that Facebook wants to use TikTok (or its advertising platform) to expand its Gen Z user base after recently reporting solid monthly active user growth last quarter and the first-ever decline in daily active users.

and while it Is an While big brands use different channels for marketing and communication, it’s pretty funny to see Facebook popping up on TikTok as the company lists the short video app as its top competitive threat these days.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed this during an investor call on Meta’s Q4 2021 results.

“People have a lot of choices about how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok are evolving very quickly,” Zuckerberg says. He later added, “TikTok is already such a big competitor and is growing very fast from a very large base.”

The company will not share any additional information about its plans for TikTok, including what content it relies on and whether ads will be shown in the account. (but feel free to dm me when you see them!)
