What inspired Pierce and Liriani to create the tome was that they spent all their time creating tools for self-expression through stickers, augmented reality, and layers, but didn’t see it translate into areas like PowerPoint presentations.

“It always makes me very frustrated, because I would like to have a tool that would make them tell a great story and not delve into how it works until it is innocent,” Pierce told gaming-updates. “The tool almost offers this behavior – when you first open Google Slides or PowerPoint, it seems like it’s a design tool. We wanted to create something opposite.”

Pierce believes the magic of the tome lies in its ability to create books in minutes rather than hours. Using the desktop or mobile app, the user can easily embed anything like Figma prototypes, spreadsheets, videos, tweets, and GIFs on the web and link them to real-time 3D models and datasheets that update automatically. And instead of adjusting what you want to say or do to fit on one page, volume pages are fluid and adapt to what you want to add. Throughout the process, the user can share Volumes with colleagues to receive changes and comments.

Tome today announced its public launch, announcing $32.3 million in funding from Greylock and Cotue, as well as a group of angel investors that includes executives from companies like Zoom, Airtable and Adobe.

The funding is a combination of $6.3 million in seed funding led by Greylock’s Reed Hoffman, which was raised last December, and $26 million in Series A funding. The impetus for the additional resources was the development of a more robust channel product. mobile editing and drawing.

Peiris wants to make sure that Tohme has the time and team to tackle and fix all of these things, so he plans to use the new “product development-only” funding, especially for his mobile apps. As the product becomes more complete, it will invest more in the go-to-market team.

Since the company exited the brief on Wednesday, there wasn’t much to discuss about growth statistics, but he said there are “a lot of happy teams that use Tome a lot.”

“We’ve seen great ideas fail at large companies because someone couldn’t present them or the idea wasn’t structured properly,” Pierce said. “You have to learn how to translate an idea into a deck of cards, but we’re trying to eliminate all that learning and work so that every idea can be conveyed effortlessly and everyone can be a great storyteller.”
