SpaceX is raising prices for Starlink, which includes the cost of a set of equipment as well as a monthly fee for the service. The price of the kit goes up even for existing contributors, but more so for new orders.

The Starlink equipment fee is calculated for existing contributors plus an additional $50, which increases the price from $499 to $549, and those who don’t pre-order now pay $599 for a kit that includes a Starlink receiver dish, modem, and router. included. Monthly prices increased by $11, from $99 to $110. All prices listed here reflect US prices, but customers around the world also receive a similar boost.

SpaceX cited inflation as the sole reason for the new pricing structure: “The sole purpose of these adjustments is to keep pace with rising inflation,” the company wrote in an email to existing customers. The company also offered a partial refund of $200 for equipment return cancellations if the customer has been served for less than one year, or a full refund for less than 30 days.

The email also says that Starlink has significantly expanded its infrastructure since launch, tripling the number of satellites in orbit and quadrupling the number of ground stations for relay communications.

SpaceX isn’t the first company to raise prices even for product armor holders due to changing economic conditions: Rivian took a more drastic step with its R1T and R1S electric vehicles before bringing them back for pre-order earlier this month.
