First day of Y Combinator The demo day talk about the 2022 Winter Party has come to an end.
This year we have changed our coverage, breaking down information by industry and geographic region. Our goal was to avoid the huge list we’ve been building up over the years. gaming-updates has notes on the growing number of discussions with African companies, Indian startups, international fintech companies, and even competition within accelerator startups.
But one thing we don’t change with our Y Combinator coverage is the Favorites collection.
Of course, this is just our opinion. Our people spend a lot of time learning about the technologies startups create, the industries they target, and the parts of the world they hope to serve. As a result, each of us has our own point of view. As such, our favorites often come from areas we know best and are currently passionate about.
Among the hundreds of companies we reviewed today, which one caught the attention of gaming-updates employees? More!

The following list is in no particular order. Companies’ websites and creators’ Twitter profiles are linked.
Alex Wilhelm: Disc Music
- description: A mobile app designed for the youth market that combines music with social features. The company says its app has been ranked in the top 10 in the Music category on the App Store. That translates to 15,000 daily active users (DAUs), a neat number big enough for startups to really learn from their original audience.
- Why is it a favorite: If Diskz is able to increase their DAU, this is acquisition bait. Every major social agency — even the smallest — is influenced by TikTok’s ability to influence culture by shaping what people listen to. Social platforms require a musical strategy. What does Diskz do and why was it not bought with some popularity among the first users? In contrast, Spotify is very good at giving people music, but culturally apart. It could use a social strategy, right? Guess who’s on my mind?
