Meta today announced that it will not be hosting the F8 Developers Conference in 2022. In a blog post, the company said it was “pausing” the conference this year as it focused on new initiatives like Metaverse.

“As in previous years, we are taking a short break from programming and there will be no F8 in 2022 as we prepare for the next chapter of the Internet, as well as new initiatives that align with the next chapter of our business: the building metaverse. More on this in our Diego Duarte Moreira, director of products and partnerships at Meta, told the blog. “Like the early stages of the Internet, the creation of the Metaverse will be a collaborative effort at all levels – with other companies, creators and developers.”

Instead, Moreira said that Meta is looking forward to connecting with developers at other company events this year, including the recently announced Inaugural Conversations virtual event on May 19. The conference will focus on companies, developers and partners interested in creating experiences on the messaging platform. Meta also plans to share new product updates at the conference.

The company is still hosting its annual Connect event later this year, where it plans to share the latest news about its offerings for the VR, AR, and Metaverse platform. At last year’s Connect event, the company announced its rebrand for Meta, saying the new name reflects its main goal: building the Metaverse.
