The Meta wants you to play in the Metaverse.

Speaking at SXSW, Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company plans to bring NFT to Instagram in the “near future.” While Meta’s CEO and founder did not provide details, he explained the integration of non-tradable tokens into the photo and video sharing app after the Instagram team resolved some technical issues. ,

“We are working on bringing NFT to Instagram in the near future,” Zuckerberg said in an interview with Shark Tank’s Daymond John. “I’m not ready to announce what’s going to happen today, but in the coming months I’ll have the opportunity to present some of your NFTs and hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to work in that environment over time.”

In December, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that the company… Active study of NFTs To bring technology to a wider audience. “I think it’s an interesting place where we can play and hopefully help the creators,” Mosseri said in an Instagram story.

Those plans were already in the works: Last summer, Instagram hosted “Creativity Week,” an invite-only virtual summit that the company described in its invitation as “a private event for NFT creators.”

Instagram’s interest in NFTs aligns with parent company Meta’s overarching vision of an engaging, interconnected virtual world filled with digital goods. “My hope is that the clothes your metaverse avatar wears can be perforated like NFTs and you can move them between different locations,” Zuckerberg said.

While the company’s NFT plans are not a starting point for those following Meta’s aspirations, the integration could be a big deal for some creators who don’t like the technology.

Earlier this year, Twitter enabled NFT profile pictures for premium users — an integration that the meta offered — but due to the crypto hype of Jack Dorsey and the existing NFT platform community, the features are indispensable on Instagram.

There is also the point that the track record of Meta products in the crypto universe is not yet uniform, in general terms. Facing opposition from central banks and regulators, the company has shelved grandiose plans for its own cryptocurrency until they look like the first announcements of groundbreaking innovations.
